Join us at our Monthly Huddles!

These luncheon gatherings provide a platform to discuss homelessness in San Diego County, learn about the Rescue Mission, and explore ways you can help. Huddles are held monthly and alternate between locations in North County and South County, taking place in our emergency shelter community rooms. Come enjoy a delicious lunch with Tacos by Manny.

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we remember his powerful words from his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize speech:

“Almost two-thirds of the peoples of the world go to bed hungry at night. They are undernourished, ill-housed, and shabbily clad. Many of them have no houses or beds to sleep in. Their only beds are the sidewalks of the cities and the dusty roads of the villages.” MLK

We are committed to transforming lives by addressing both hunger and homelessness. One shining example of this is Zenaida, our Director of Partners for Hunger Relief & Warehouse Operations. With 14 years of dedicated service, she has turned her passion into a lifeline for families in need.

Since 1955, we’ve always been a leader in caring for our San Diego community. Our soup kitchen expanded to a short-term shelter for 85 men, marking the beginning of what would evolve into our Mission Academy Residential Program where we recently had 160 graduates in 2024.

Guided by our mission, WE: 🤝 Lovingly address the needs of men, women, and children experiencing homelessness. 📖 Share the Good News of Salvation. 💚 Provide a holistic approach to rehabilitation and recovery.

“I didn't really have a chance to be a father and now I do because he's here with me. I enjoy every day.

Since Lance was a little boy, he remembered growing up around alcoholics and drug addicts. Tragically, by the time he was 15 years old he had already experimented with hard drugs. By age 18, he had recurring arrests.

At the end of his rope, he grew tired of his way of life. He did not see a way out until his girlfriend introduced him to the San Diego Rescue Mission.

Being at the Mission improved Lance's life and led to him gaining custody of his child. Having his son with him every day has significantly strengthened their relationship. Lance walks his son to school and picks him up daily, cherishing the precious time spent together. He acknowledges the positive impact of having his son in his life. Lance is grateful that his son has the chance to make friends with kids close to his age.

Because of YOU, individuals like Lance and his son can find refuge and create cherished memories this Christmas.
