In San Diego County, homelessness increased by 3% in San Diego County overall from last year, the one-day snapshot, point-in-time count found 10,605 people experiencing homelessness. That is too many! Do you agree? 🤔

🎓 Twice a year, we come together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of students in Mission Academy, our 1-year residential recovery program. This special event also shines a spotlight on two scholarships that change the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

A huge shoutout to We Revive, our incredible corporate partner on a mission to revive the world one property at a time! They sponsor a scholarship for a male graduate, providing a key to unlock a new life and secure housing. This semester, we celebrate Kyle, the well-deserved recipient of the We Revive Scholarship!

We’re also thrilled to also highlight the Barbara Lee Edwards Scholarship, which began in Spring 2020 to empower women like Nekaiya, who has shown unwavering dedication and has big dreams for her future. Hip, hip, hooray! 🎓 May your journey ahead be filled with endless possibilities!

A heartfelt thank you!❤️Your help is working!!!

In 2024, we celebrated the graduation of 160 individuals from our 12-month rehabilitation program, Mission Academy. By addressing the issues of their heart, our students break free from destructive patterns and embrace healthier habits. They find jobs, secure permanent homes, and gain support from God and their community.

Your compassion has played a crucial role in transforming these lives.

Last Saturday, 38 students proudly stepped across the stage, embarking on their journey toward self-sufficiency.

May God’s blessings guide them on this new adventure, inspiring them to share their stories and spread joy wherever they go.

Hey there, pie enthusiasts! The San Diego Rescue Mission is cooking up a Thanksgiving feast for our unsheltered neighbors on November 23rd, and guess what? We need your help!

We're on the hunt for dinner rolls and delicious apple pies, berry pies, peach pies – you name it, we'll take it! If you want to add some sweetness to the lives of our community members facing food insecurity and homelessness, this is your chance.

Simply drop off your store-bought pies or dinner rolls before the 18th at the Mission front desk, attention: Alan Kennedy, 120 Elm Street, Monday-Friday between 8 am - 3 pm. Your contribution will make our Thanksgiving meal extra tasty and our hearts extra thankful! 🙌

A Race to Remember!

Recently, 15 students and 7 staff members from our year-long recovery program, Mission Academy, completed the America’s Finest City Half Marathon. Among the participants, one story stood out: Armond's.

In Mission Academy’s Up and Running Program, each season the team votes for a participant who exemplifies excellence—someone who is consistent, has a positive attitude, motivates others, and takes on a leadership role. This season, Armond earned the Excellence Award, which was presented the night before the race.

Known for his devotionals and prayers, Armond accepted the award with tears of gratitude. His resilience is remarkable; he has faced chronic homelessness since the age of 5.

For Armond, crossing the half-marathon finish line was a "taste of victory." Through Up and Running Again, he has gained a deeper understanding of himself and plans to continue running, looking forward to future seasons with the training program.
As the Bible reminds us, “Run the race set before us.” Armond’s story is a testament to the strength and perseverance we can find through faith and dedication.
